Buell M2 CYCLONE 1999 Parts & Accessories

Founded in 1983 by former Harley-Davidson engineer Erik Buell, the Buell Motorcycle Company emerged as a pioneer in American sportbike innovation. Driven by Erik Buell's pursuit of chassis rigidity and mass centralization, the brand gained acclaim for patented engineering features including fuel-in-in-frame designs, under-engine exhaust systems, perimeter front brake discs, and perimeter-style frames. Harley-Davidson acquired a majority stake in 1993 and full ownership in 1998, positioning Buell as its performance sport arm. Though Harley-Davidson discontinued the brand during the 2008–2009 financial crisis, the nameplate was revived in 2021 under new ownership (Buell Motorcycle Co.), building high-performance American V-twin supermodels around the liquid-cooled 1190 cc engine platform.

Buell used distinct prefix systems and series acronyms across its historical and modern lineups:

• RR / RS / RSS: Early tube-frame "Road Racer" and "Road Sport" models
• S1 / S2 / S3 / X1: Tube-frame streetfighters ("Lightning" and "Thunderbolt")
• XB Series: Aluminum beam frame chassis with integrated fuel tanks ("XB" denoting the modern dual-beam architecture)
• S / R / X / TT Suffixes: "S" for naked streetfighter, "R" for full-faired sport/race, "X" for Ulysses adventure, "TT" for track/supermoto
• 1125 / 1190: High-output Rotax-developed and modern liquid-cooled 72° V-twin superbike platforms

• RW750 (1983–1985): Erik Buell's debut race-only machine featuring a two-stroke square-four engine designed for Formula One road racing.
• RR1000 / RR1200 Battletwin (1986–1990): Full-faired sportbikes utilizing heavily rubber-mounted Harley-Davidson XR1000 and Evolution Sportster engines housed in lightweight chrome-moly space frames.
• RS1200 / RSS1200 Thunderbolt (1989–1993): Two-up sports tourers combining high-performance chassis geometry with iconic aerodynamic fairings.

• X1 Lightning (1999–2002): Redesigned streetfighter introducing Dynamic Digital Fuel Injection (DDFI) and updated frame geometry.
• Blast (2000–2009): Entry-level commuter featuring a 492 cc single-cylinder engine (derived from half of an air-cooled Sportster V-twin) with low maintenance belt drive and durable plastic bodywork.

• XB9R / XB12R Firebolt (2003–2010): Full-faired sportbikes introducing fuel-in-frame chassis technology, oil-in-swingarm design, underslung exhaust, and 375 mm perimeter ZTL (Zero Torsional Load) front brakes with 984 cc or 1,203 cc engines.
• XB9S / XB12S Lightning (2003–2010): Naked streetfighters featuring wide handlebars, dual round headlights, short wheelbases, and exposed fuel-in-frame aluminum architecture (including long-wheelbase "Ss" and lowered "Scg" variants).
• XB12X / XB12XT Ulysses (2006–2010): Adventure-touring and sport-touring models equipped with long-travel suspension, dual-purpose tires, luggage systems, and a three-position rear backrest/rack.

• 1190RX / 1190SX (2014–Present): High-performance modern superbike and naked streetfighter powered by a 1,190 cc liquid-cooled V-twin generating 185 HP and 102 lb-ft of torque, wrapped in a fuel-in-frame aluminum chassis.
• Hammerhead 1190 (2021–Present): Flagship modern superbike reviving the brand, featuring carbon fiber bodywork, updated aerodynamics, and 185 HP V-twin performance.
• Super Tourer / Baja 1190 (Modern Era): Long-distance sport-touring and high-speed off-road hillclimb/desert concepts built on the liquid-cooled 1190 platform.
