Introduced in 1989 as the successor to the FL350R, the Honda Pilot FL400R represents the pinnacle of Honda's single-seat off-road vehicle development. Built with a powerful 397 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke engine, the FL400R was designed to deliver high-speed performance across desert dunes and rough off-road terrain. Key advancements over its predecessors included a sophisticated double-wishbone long-travel suspension system at all four corners, a automotive-style steering wheel with integrated thumb throttle and hand-operated brakes, a fully enclosed roll cage with safety netting, and a high-capacity V-belt automatic transmission with reverse. Produced for only two model years (1989 and 1990), the FL400R remains a highly prized collector's machine in the single-seat buggy market.
