Kawasaki KDX220R 2004 Parts & Accessories

First introduced in 1979 as an off-road derivative of the KX motocross line, the Kawasaki KDX Series became one of the most legendary, long-running lines of trail and enduro two-stroke motorcycles in history. Positioned as versatile, highly dependable off-road machines, KDX models combined wide-ratio transmissions, compliant Uni-Trak rear suspension, headlight/tail light lighting packages, and tractable two-stroke powerbands. Renowned for bridging the gap between high-maintenance motocrossers and heavy dual-sports, the KDX series dominated woods racing, ISDE (International Six Days Enduro) events, and weekend trail riding for over two decades before environmental emissions standards brought the line to an end in 2006.

Kawasaki utilized displacement numbers and generational chassis/engine suffixes to identify KDX models:

• KDX: Kawasaki Dirt Cross / Off-Road Enduro platform
• SR / A / C / E / H Suffixes: Generational internal frame designations (e.g., E-series for liquid-cooling, H-series for perimeter frame)
• SR (Street / Registration): Japanese and European dual-sport street-legal factory variants equipped with oil injection, turn signals, and steel fuel tanks

• KDX50 (2003–2006): Entry-level youth trail bike featuring an automatic clutch, single-speed transmission, low seat height, and parent-adjustable speed limiter (rebadged Suzuki JR50).
• KDX80 (1980–1988): Small-wheel junior enduro powered by an air-cooled 82 cc two-stroke engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, and long-travel Uni-Trak rear suspension.

• KDX125 / KDX125SR (1990–1999): High-revving 124 cc liquid-cooled two-stroke dual-sport and trail model featuring KIPS (Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System), upside-down front forks, and dual-purpose road capability.
• KDX175 (1980–1982): Foundational air-cooled two-stroke enduro bike featuring a 5-speed transmission, light overall weight, and high ground clearance that established Kawasaki's presence in American woods racing.

• KDX200 (1983–2006): The quintessential benchmark woods bike, evolving through air-cooled (1983–1988), liquid-cooled E-series (1989–1994), and high-rigidity steel perimeter frame H-series (1995–2006) generations featuring KIPS power valves, 6-speed wide-ratio gearboxes, and legendary tractor-like low-end torque.
• KDX220R (1997–2005): Torque-focused off-road variant offering a larger 216 cc displacement via a smaller 33 mm Keihin carburetor, delivering enhanced bottom-end power for tight technical woods and rocky trails.
• KDX250 (1980–1995): Open-class off-road platform derived directly from the KX250 motocrosser, featuring heavy-duty suspension, large fuel capacity, and high-horsepower output for high-speed desert and cross-country competition.
• KDX400 / KDX420 / KDX450 (1979–1982): Early open-class two-stroke thumpers featuring massive low-rpm torque designed to tackle open desert terrain and rugged cross-country tracks before being phased out in favor of lighter mid-bore platforms.
