Kawasaki KLX450R 2016 Parts & Accessories

First introduced in 1979 with the air-cooled KLX250-A, the Kawasaki KLX Series evolved into Kawasaki's premier four-stroke off-road, dual-sport, and supermoto platform. Designed to offer tractable power, liquid-cooled reliability, and aggressive off-road ergonomics, the KLX lineup spans from youth-oriented beginner trail bikes to road-legal dual-sports, factory supermotos, and open-class competition machines. Combining high-tensile perimeter frames, responsive four-stroke single-cylinder engines, and compliant Uni-Trak rear suspensions, the KLX platform replaced older air-cooled designs and continues as Kawasaki's modern dual-purpose cornerstone.

Kawasaki utilizes specific suffix codes across the KLX line to denote intended riding terrain, chassis height, and street-legal equipment:

• KLX (Standard): Four-stroke off-road / dual-sport baseline platform
• R Suffix: Pure off-road trail/enduro competition models (non-street-legal)
• S / SE Suffix: Street-legal dual-sport models equipped with lights, mirrors, and dual-purpose tires
• SM / D-Tracker Suffix: Factory supermoto models fitted with 17-inch street wheels and sticky road tires
• L / F Suffixes: Wheel size and seat height variants (e.g., "L" for larger wheels, "F" for full-size off-road wheels)
• Sherpa / DF: Specialized lightweight adventure/scrambler variants equipped with low seat heights and utility racks

• KLX110 / KLX110R / KLX110R L: Entry-level youth trail bikes powered by a 112 cc air-cooled 4-stroke single, featuring automatic or manual clutches and low seat heights.
• KLX140R / 140R L / 140R F: Scaled-size off-road trail platform powered by a 144 cc air-cooled single, offering progressive chassis setups spanning 17"/14" wheels up to full-size 21"/18" off-road wheels (F-model).

• KLX125 / KLX150: Compact global dual-sport commuters powered by air-cooled 125 cc to 144 cc single-cylinder engines.
• KLX230 / KLX230R / KLX230S / KLX230SM / KLX230 DF: Air-cooled 233 cc fuel-injected single-cylinder platform spanning dual-sport, lowered seat (S), pure off-road (R), supermoto (SM), and utility dual-sport (DF) configurations.
• KLX250 / KLX250R / KLX250S / D-Tracker (1979–2020): Foundational liquid-cooled DOHC 249 cc four-stroke platform featuring perimeter steel frames, inverted front forks, and long-travel Uni-Trak rear suspension, available in pure off-road, street-legal dual-sport, and D-Tracker supermoto guises.
• KLX250 Super Sherpa (1997–2010): Low-slung, air-cooled 249 cc dual-sport commuter featuring stainless steel exhaust, rear cargo rack, digital instrument display, and ultra-low seat height.

• KLX300 / KLX300R / KLX300SM (1997–Present): High-performance liquid-cooled 292 cc DOHC 4-valve single-cylinder platform offering increased torque and power over the 250, available as a trail/enduro (300R), dual-sport (300), and 17-inch factory supermoto (300SM).
• KLX400R / KLX400SR (2003–2004): Liquid-cooled 398 cc DOHC dual-sport and off-road model developed via a joint venture with Suzuki (rebadged Suzuki DR-Z400/DR-Z400E).

• KLX450R (2008–Present): Heavy-duty off-road competition enduro machine derived from the KX450F motocrosser, featuring a liquid-cooled 449 cc DOHC engine, electric start, wide-ratio 5-speed transmission, headlight package, and off-road tuned suspension.
• KLX650 / KLX650R (1993–2001): High-output open-class dual-sport and competition enduro powered by a liquid-cooled 651 cc DOHC 4-valve single-cylinder engine housed in a rigid high-tensile steel perimeter frame.
