Introduced in 2001 to replace the long-running KX80, the Kawasaki KX85 serves as Kawasaki's benchmark amateur motocrosser, designed to take youth racers from the 65 cc ranks directly into competitive 85 cc and Supermini classes. Powered by a high-revving, liquid-cooled 84 cc two-stroke single featuring the Kawasaki Integrated Power Valve System (KIPS), the KX85 delivers a broad, tractable powerband with explosive top-end drive. Available in standard and big-wheel (KX85-II / KX85-L) configurations, the platform has undergone continuous race-bred evolutions—including major overhauls in 2014 and 2022—bringing sharper factory bodywork, improved engine cooling, revised suspension valving, stronger 6-speed transmissions, and ERGO-FIT adjustable handlebars to suit growing athletes.

• High-Performance 84 cc Two-Stroke Engine: Liquid-cooled 84 cc single-cylinder engine with KIPS power valve technology and Electrofusion cylinder coating for smooth low-end torque and high-rpm overrev.
• Standard Wheel Dimensions: Features a 17-inch front and 14-inch rear wheel setup tailored for younger or shorter 85 cc class racers.
• Race-Tuned Suspension & Braking: 36 mm inverted cartridge front forks with 20-way compression damping adjustment and a Uni-Trak rear shock with adjustable compression, rebound, and preload, paired with front (220 mm) and rear (184 mm) petal disc brakes.
• Adjustable Ergonomics: Equipped with a 6-position adjustable handlebar mount system to accommodate growing riders.

• Big-Wheel Platform: Upgrades the standard chassis with larger 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels, providing higher ground clearance, improved rollover over braking bumps, and enhanced high-speed stability for taller youth riders.
• Increased Seat Height & Geometry: Taller seat height and longer swingarm dimension to accommodate the larger wheel setup while maintaining balanced weight distribution.
• Shared Race Specs: Utilizes the same high-output 84 cc KIPS engine, 6-speed manual transmission, and fully adjustable suspension package as the standard KX85.
