Produced from 1980 through 1987, the Yamaha XT200 was a lightweight dual-sport motorcycle designed for versatile on-road commuting and off-road trail riding. Powered by a simple, air-cooled 196 cc SOHC single-cylinder four-stroke engine, it produced 18 horsepower and delivered exceptional fuel efficiency. Equipped from the factory with street-legal equipment including turn signals, mirrors, and full lighting running on a 6-volt electrical system, the XT200 featured long-travel suspension, a 21-inch front wheel, and a lightweight chassis weighing under 100 kg dry. Its dependable engine and frame architecture laid the foundational design for subsequent Yamaha models like the AG200, TW200, and XT225.
