By pioneering a compact "stacked gearbox" engine layout, the original R1 allowed for a shorter wheelbase and longer swingarm within a lightweight Deltabox frame, setting a brand-new benchmark for agility and handling. Continuously updated across multiple generations, the R1 has introduced major technological innovations over its lifespan—including fuel injection, titanium valves, advanced YCC-T electronics, and its hallmark CP4 crossplane crankshaft engine design.
